NASSO Compass helps individuals and schools organize their learning, consider how it applies to their responsibilities, and identify practical improvements in their daily work.

School safety and security directors can use these pathways as a framework for team training. Individual learners can follow them independently, at their own pace. Start with the first course and work through the sequence or use a pathway to identify learning that supports your role.

All training is developed and delivered by the credited providers. NASSO organizes the pathways and connects you directly to their resources. Access to NASSO Compass is free.

Getting Started

​

Select a pathway and follow the numbered training sequence. Some training providers may require users to create their own accounts on the provider’s website before accessing training, taking assessments, or receiving completion documentation. Accounts are managed separately by each provider. Follow the provider’s enrollment instructions and save any completion records offered. Directors may adapt the sequence and establish their own team completion requirements.

Learning and Completion

Completing a NASSO Compass Pathway documents learning; it does not by itself demonstrate competency or establish qualifications to perform a specialized function.  Each individual needs to apply the learning within their role, training, and school or agency procedures.

All training belongs to its respective provider. NASSO organizes learning pathways and does not claim ownership of the courses or materials.

Before You Begin: Accessing Provider Training

​

Most training providers require you to create a free account, and the process is usually straightforward. Some providers have a few additional steps that can make getting started a little more complicated.

To help, we have included instructions for three providers: the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD), the Ohio School Safety Center’s Knowledge District, and FEMA. Select Review Instructions below if your selected pathway includes training from these providers.

Keeping NASSO Compass Current

 

NASSO will review each pathway every six months and update it sooner when a provider change is identified.  Reviews will check course titles, links, availability, prerequisites, account requirements, and whether the recommended sequence remains appropriate.  Learners should also follow the current instructions on each providers website.
